1.4 Sea-Floor Spreading

Mid-ocean ridge- The longest chain of mountains in the world.

Sonar- a device that Bounces sound waves off under water objects then records the echoes of these sound waves.

Sea-floor spreading- As the molten material cools, it forms a strip of solid rock in the center of the ridge.

Deep-ocean trenches- The ocean floor plunges into deep under- water trenches. Which is how those under water trenches form.

Subduction- Is the process in which the ocean floor sinks beneath a deep underwater trench and back into the mantle
